Farmers inform themselves about the planting of valuable wood tree species on the Agrofrost experimental field in Löwenberger Land

Farmers and network partners find out more about agroforestry systems and small-scale land management

After the drought years of 2018 and 2019, there is a growing interest among farmers in dealing with alternative forms of land use that offer protection against erosion and desiccation. As part of a full-day agroforestry excursion on February 27, 2020, 21 farmers visited the agroforestry experimental field in Löwenberger Land, which is operated by the University for Sustainable Development in Eberswalde and serves as a DAKIS test area. The field is located about 50 km north of Berlin and covers about 30 hectares (each about 10 hectares of agroforestry, zero area, short rotation plantation). The advantages and disadvantages of small-scale forms of cultivation through the integration of woody plants were discussed intensively. The excursion was offered by the HNE Eberswalde for farmers who are involved in the regional competence networks “NutriNet” and “CroppingSchool” and who already have experience in the field of practical research.
