Delegation from Uzbekistan visits ZALF – Lecture on DAKIS and EROSPOT
On 30 July 2024, around 15 delegates from Uzbekistan visited ZALF in Müncheberg. In addition to field trips, the visitors were given insights into the DAKIS project and current research priorities in the field of erosion, presented by Marvin Melzer together with an interpreter. The guests were particularly interested in the complex data processing and the development of new approaches to improving ecosystem services through agri-environmental measures. Agriculture is also very important in Uzbekistan and faces similar challenges to the pilot regions [Bavaria and Brandenburg] in the DAKIS project,” said a farmer among the guests. The problems of increasing drought and wind erosion were discussed, as well as measures such as how farmers in Uzbekistan collect water in areas during heavy rainfall events using “collector” gutter systems. The lively exchange made it clear that many problems are very similar globally, new solutions from the DAKIS project are in demand, can also be applied in other regions of the world and are being followed with great interest there.
